Because STUMBLING BLOCKS make us better human being… (क्योंकि ठोकरें हमें बेहतर इंसान बनाती हैं...)
We all want that we get success in every struggle of life. Whatever dreams we dream, may come true in a jiffy. May we have the power to bend the world at our feet, immense wealth and high social status. The truth is that our hunger is more than that. We want that we should not be defeated in any battle of life and everyone who challenges us should be defeated by us.
If you look carefully, this hunger to win has both advantages and disadvantages, although people's attention often goes to its advantages. This is the reason why our parents and teachers want to fill this hunger in us since childhood because they feel that due to this 'killer instinct' a person can reach the peak level of success. That's why they tell 'false and true' stories of Alexander The Great, Napoleon and Prithviraj Chauhan to the children. They instill in the children the rites of reaching and staying at the top position since childhood.
But in parallel to glorifying this hunger day and night, we should also think that is this hunger really that auspicious? It should not be forgotten that winning is a comparative position or 'relative position'. In saying 'someone will win', it is included that someone will lose also. Usually when one person wins, a hundred and fifty people lose also. When one child in a class is engrossed in pride after securing first place, at the same time the rest of the children are trembling with the sense of defeat, even if no one notices their suffering. Therefore, it should be seriously considered whether it is appropriate to push the rest 99 into frustration just to give one person a chance for complacency?
This is a terrible truth of our society and in the student life the feeling of its bitterness is sharpest. At this critical age it is very important to understand that defeat is not always bad, it should also be taken as a natural part of life. The truth is that constant defeat may break a person; But occasional stumbling blocks only make a person better and polish him properly.
1. The first advantage of stumbling a little is that it develops character qualities like 'Patience' and 'Perseverance' in a person. Nowadays many psychologists have started to believe that 'Perseverance' plays a bigger role in a person's success than "Intellectual Ability' and 'Emotional Intelligence'. 'Perseverance' means to be continuously engaged in the spiritual practice of one's purpose without being afraid of difficulties.
The world is full of examples of this. Remember that Thomas Alva Edison was able to invent the 'Bulb' after about a thousand unsuccessful experiments. Albert Einstein was thrown out of school for being a retarded child. The strength of all of them was that even in these cruel moments of failure, they did not break but remained firm on their insistence. Today one shudders to imagine how these great men must have maintained their confidence after every failure.
2. The second advantage of failing is that the person's feet remain on the ground. The feeling remains in his mind that he is not the master of the world, but that there are other people in the society to whom God or Nature has bestowed merit. This realization does not allow a person to become arrogant even at the peak level of success, keeps him humble and sensitive.
3. The third advantage of defeat is that one develops the ability to recognize the world properly. He is able to see that many people who claim friendship, immediately put aside in times of crisis, while some people, even after being unpleasant or strangers, join hands in distress. There is an old English proverb - "A friend in need is the friend indeed" i.e. a real friend is the one who supports you in times of crisis. Wise people put energy into reading the minds of their acquaintances instead of getting frustrated in times of failures.
4. There is another advantage of defeat which is understandable over a long period of time. When a person fails in the final despite exerting all his strength in some area, then once he feels darkness everywhere. Gradually he has to step into a new field. Sometimes he gives such a wave of success in the new field which was not possible in the old field. Later he is happy to remember the same failure that was making him feel dark at that time; Because now, on the long canvas of time he can see how necessary that defeat was to reach this height. Imagine that if 'Facebook' had not refused to employ Brian Acton, then we would not have even a feature like 'WhatsApp' & 'Signal' today.
** The purpose of enumerating so many advantages of defeat is neither to glorify it nor to say that we should aspire to lose. The only thing is that one should try to live life by playing the spirit of the game. A person should accept his defeat with full dignity and create a new definition or strategy of success. After all, being successful in an exam is not life!!!
